Garret was the son of Garret Schanck/Schenck and Jane Couwenhoven. He married Sarah CONOVER, the daughter of Ruleff Covenhoven and Sarah Vorhees. Garret was a Revolutionary War soldier, but his service is unclear because there was another New Jersey soldier of the same name living in New Brunswick, Middlesex Co. There is record of Garret Schenck serving at various times from 1777 to 1781 in New Jersey's 1st Regiment and 5th Regiment. Also, he should not be confused with yet another New Jersey Revolutionary soldier, Garret G. Schenck, who was living in Warren Co. Ohio in 1832 when he received a pension. With this all said, it is likely that this Garret Schenck served in the 1st Regiment, Monmouth Militia, in which unit his brother, John, was a Captain.
